1/2 cup almond flour
1 tbsp ground flax
1/4 tsp cardamom, freshly ground
Pinch salt
Zest of ½ orange (optional)

1 tsp vanilla extract
2 - 4 tbsp milk

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a loaf pan with parchment paper.
Stir together the dry ingredients, then mix in the wet ingredients, adding more milk/ moisture if the mixture appears too dry.
Using your hands, press 2/3 of the crust mixture into the prepared loaf pan (on top of the parchment paper).
Spread the fig jam over the bottom layer of crust from edge to edge. Then, top with the remaining 1/3 of crust.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are brown and the center is set but still soft.
Cut into bars and enjoy!
Notes
What a fantastic toddler bar that does 2 things: promotes healthy BMs in yourself and your toddler AND rejuvenates a tired, burnt-out mom.
I made these 1 time, and they have been a staple in our house ever since.
Figs are a classic in Ayurveda when it comes to reducing constipation and improving energy - they are Ojas-promoting which means - energy, vitality, immunity, ability to withstand stress & disease. The other ingredients listed such as oats, ghee, nut butter, flax - are also Ojas promoting AND constipation reducing.
These bars have downward-moving action, reducing feelings of anxiety, stress, and burnout. Any heat and inflammation moving upwards in the body, gets redirected back downward with these bars. And that comes with a side benefit of healthy BMs.
So while you are making food for your toddler, make sure it doubles as medicine for you. This is an example of that. Make a double batch so you have enough for the whole family to last the week!
