  • 1 1/2 tbsp coconut sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder or freshly ground cardamom

  • Fresh basil or mint, finely chopped

  • Drizzle of honey or maple syrup

  • Homemade granola or toasted nuts (for topping, optional)

  • Drizzle of balsamic vinegar

  • Serve on top of yogurt, with the yogurt preferably thinned out with water

  • Serve with fresh paneer, ricotta, or burrata cheese

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix the coconut sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon/ cardamom powder, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.

  2. Heat ghee in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the coconut sugar mixture and heat for 30 seconds - 1 minute. Add the figs to the pan cut side down and heat for 3-5 minutes each side.

Notes

  • I am not a huge fan of figs, but this recipe may convert me.

  • Figs are an ojas-giving (vitality) fruit that are highly nourishing. Balancing to the mind and body for vatas & pittas. Fun fact: It is said that the Buddha found enlightenment under a fig tree.

  • I listed the nuts/ granola as optional, but I think they are needed in this dish for texture. It is nice to pair something soft and goo-ey with something crunchy.

  • Figs go great with cheese, yogurt, and even a drizzle of balsamic vinegar - that sour taste really makes them shine.

  • This recipe isn't great for kaphas due to its heavy, moist qualities, BUT if you are a kapha and want to try this out in moderation, use less ghee, more granola, and more fresh herbs/ spices.
