Cilantro & Honey Shots

Cooking Time:

Approximately 5-10 minutes to prepare

Serves:

Makes (8) 2oz shots

About the Recipe

The pollen is BRUTAL during the spring season which results in really annoying sniffles and sneezes.

Cilantro (or coriander seeds) is a highly underrated kitchen herb for this ailment. I have seen a simple coriander seed tea stop even the most stubborn and reactive allergies in its tracks. In case you are wondering, cilantro & coriander are the same thing, coriander seeds are the seed of the same plant.

The juice of cilantro leaves can be used externally and internally for allergy rashes and allergic rhinitis. ESPECIALLY if it relates to Pitta. Cilantro clears toxins and debris from the blood. These toxins in the blood are usually the culprit behind allergies, allergic reactions, or just a highly reactive body as seen in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Combine that with raw local honey which is a natural antihistamine - well then, you have one hell of an allergy fighter.

Speaking of raw local honey, it is important that you use RAW AND LOCAL HONEY to gain the best nutritional and medicinal benefits from this juice. Honey that has been heated oxidizes and becomes rancid. Something that was once healthy, has now become unhealthy just due to processing. Also, you want to make sure that the honey you are using is from local bees - or you will not get the anti-allergy result from the pollen in YOUR environment. Thus, make sure the honey is labeled RAW and LOCAL.

As always, what's good for some people may not be good for you. These juice shots are generally safe for most people but if you are taking medications, nursing, pregnant, or have something else going on, either have this in small doses or consult your medical professional to see if its right for you. OR gee, I don't know, get assessed by your friendly neighborhood Ayurvedic Practitioner :) to see if it fits your dosha and your situation.

PS: Feel free to make a big batch and store in the freezer in ice cube trays. When you are ready to have a shot, make sure to thaw the ice cubes into a liquid before consuming.
