Notes
This one is spiiicccccyyy - so caution for pittas but great for vata & kapha during cold & flu season.
Even though, this is still spicy, it is a less spicy version of many other fire cider recipes out there.
Makes a great holiday gift, you just have to get started on them early because they need to sit for 4 weeks.
Best used during the cold winter months to boost energy and immunity.
Ingredient insight: Horseradish clears excess mucus. Ginger boosts immunity & digestion. Cinnamon supports digestion and is antiviral. Garlic is antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial. Elderberry & rosehips support immunity. Turmeric reduces inflammation. Black pepper supports digestion, reduces mucus, reduces cough. Cloves reduce pain & coughs. Apple cider vinegar boosts immunity & digestion. Raw honey boosts immunity, reduces allergies, helps with coughs, colds, & flus.
Some of these ingredients you may have to find online - such as dried rosehips & dried elderberries. Just look for an organic brand - when it comes to western herbs like this, I like to use Frontier or Starwest Botanicals. Mountain Rose Herbs is another fantastic brand (probably the best), if you don't mind waiting a long time for shipping.
To find the horseradish root - I have found the fresh root in the produce section of some grocery stores like Publix, just ask your grocer where it is. You can try the pure horseradish in the jar (makes it easier than grating anyways) but, fresh is always best when you can find it.
Suggested dose for prevention & increased energy: 1x 1.5oz shot every morning during cold/ flu season (it will wake you up!)
