HEALING TURMERIC KANJEE

Updated: Jan 28

4 servings, 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 cup basmati rice

  • 5-6 cups water

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp ghee

  • Freshly ground black pepper for topping

  • Freshly squeezed lime or lemon juice for topping

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add rice to a blender and pulse just enough to break up the pieces (not into a fine powder but into a small/ chopped up rice consistency).

  2. Rinse the rice under water using a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.

  3. Place the rice in a large pot with the turmeric and water.

  4. Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer, cover and allow to cook for about 30 minutes (until rice is soft).

  5. Stir in the ghee and salt and a pinch of black pepper at the end of cooking. Serve warm with a spritz of lime of lemon juice.

Notes

  • Kanjee - with the effect of Tums - but as a delicious rice porridge.

  • Have this meal when you are experiencing diarrhea, hyperacidity, nausea, indigestion, or overall an upset stomach.

  • This makes a great breakfast for pittas during summer time. Sometimes, I even like it with an egg on top :).
