YOGURT BOWL WITH STEWED PEACHES

ree

1 bowl, 5-10 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Yogurt bowl

  • 1/2 cup plain organic yogurt (regular or dairy-free)

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/2 tsp rose water

  • Pinch of freshly ground cardamom (or sweet spice mix)

  • Homemade granola, chopped nuts, hemp seeds, or topping of your choice

  • Sweetener of choice (raw local honey, maple syrup, agave - you may not need it, especially if your peaches are sweet :)).

Stewed peaches

  • 4 peaches, chopped, pits removed

  • 1/2 cup water (add more if needed)

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder (freshly ground)

  • pinch of salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix the yogurt, water, rose water, and cardamom in a medium bowl. Set aside.

  2. Add all the ingredients for the stewed peaches to a medium pot over medium heat. Allow to simmer until peaches are soft and cooked (about 5 minutes).

  3. Once peaches are soft/ cooked, mash them using a potato masher or back of a fork.

  4. Spoon some of the stewed peaches over your yogurt bowl and save the rest in the fridge for future breakfast bowls!

  5. Top your bowl with granola, nuts, hemp seeds, and/ or topping and sweetener of your choice.

Notes

  • In Ayurveda, we don't just eat straight yogurt - it is too mucus forming. We thin it out with some water/ liquid and pair it with some spices to make it less mucus forming and more digestible. This is how we actually get good probiotics into our system.

  • It is usually recommended to mix yogurt with equal parts water or more to really counter the mucus forming qualities - but then you end up with more of a drink than a bowl - we compromise here in this recipe with half the amount of water so you still get the bowl feeling without the clogging nature of yogurt.

  • Kapha: yogurt is not the best for kapha because of its sweet, heavy, sour qualities. If I had to make this better for kapha I would omit the yogurt and just have the stewed peaches with granola on top - honestly, that is very tasty.

  • Pitta: you can also be aggravated by yogurt as it has sour & heating qualities - thus thinning it out with water is equally as important for you. Also, in this recipe we reduce the heat by adding rosewater & cardamom to the yogurt and topping it with stewed fruit :). Skip the nuts as a topping (unless it is coconut) and stick with the granola, hemp seeds, and maple syrup if needed.
